Z
Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee where a culture of music pulsed around him, at age 18 Z moved to the Idaho mountains before landing in Seattle, Washington as the music scene was peaking in the late 80’s.
Playing his electric12-string guitar live in the desert at Burning Man in 2005 Z discovered the raw minimalist elements found on his first CD, Water Sines—Tone Poems in the Key of H2O. Z noticed that a persistent, beatless groove delivered in a single key produced a supremely calming effect on the gathered audience, perfect for “the journey”.
Z is a self-taught musician. He’s been playing music for many lifetimes. He draws inspiration from the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and Gurumayi Chidvilasananda.
Water Sines is a genre-defying production that fuses electronic and acoustic material in an ambient journey beyond the realm of music. Because the work is free of beats and melodies, it resembles the natural vibrations of Om. The music of Water Sines pays homage to the music of India and in particular the tambura, used in Indian music for its drone sound.
The compositions don’t distract the reptilian brain with key changes or the human voice, so a borderless culture is created the moment a piece is heard. The moment is the music. Water Sines showcases the powers in music that are almost supernatural.
